The match was postponed at 10.00 a.m. when secretary Cliff Lloyd phoned his counterpart at the Cheshire League to advise that the pitch was unfit. "It's waterlogged, snowbound - the lot. It's like a lake now," he explained. "It's quite obviously unfit to play on."
The Frickley team was notified of the postponement in time to prevent them from setting out. If the pitch had been fit, the Yorkshire team would have had difficulty getting to Wrexham as the Woodhead Pass over the Pennines was blocked.
